I had never thought anything much about zippers other than their quite obvious task of fastening dresses, bags and packs. But when I came across Kate Cusack’s Zipper Jewelry collections, I realized how the ingenuity of a designer could convert an inconspicuous fastener to a work of art. The Zipper Pins and the Zipper Necklaces are all hand sewn from a metal zipper, in wonderful shapes. Colorful and ornamental, the zipper pin costs $85 and the zipper necklaces are available in the price range of $400 to $1000, depending on how intricately the piece is crafted with the zipper.
